Academics

The ultimate goal of all instructional programs of St. Patrick School is to prepare our students for success in high school and beyond. We place great emphasis upon critical thinking, writing, listening, organization and study skills. Each year 100% of our graduating students gain admission to the Catholic high schools of their choice with 40% to 50% receiving scholarships or admission to honors programs. We do not administer entrance exams or interview students to determine their academic potential as a pre-requisite for admission because we firmly believe that each child should be afforded the opportunity to succeed. Our mission is to offer a Catholic education to all parents who wish it for their children. We understand that children will sometimes struggle to achieve academic success and view this challenge as a healthy component of a well rounded education. We expend great effort in tailoring instruction to address the individual learning styles and talents of our students. We offer enrichment opportunities for academically talented students on all levels beginning in Kindergarten as well as mentoring for students in need of resource. Typically 75% to 95% of our students score levels 3 or 4 on New York State Exams.

We judge the success of our programs by the success of our graduates. The feedback we receive from our former students and their parents is that the transition from Eighth Grade at St. Patrick School to freshman year in high school is a seamless experience. Our emphasis on note-taking, listening, writing, study and critical thinking skills provides the foundation for academic success in high school and beyond. Graduates of St. Patrick School have gone on to gain scholarships to prestigious universities and colleges including Harvard and Princeton.

We are committed to providing instruction that promotes interdisciplinary learning and the integration of technology across curriculum areas to enable our students to develop the skills that they will need to adapt to the changing nature of the world of the 21st Century. At St. Patrick School, we continue, as we have since 1863, to provide the BEST in Catholic education.
